Narrative non-fiction is the best non-fiction am-I-right?! Well researched and beautiful. I read this after having two children and working as a birth doula for years, but I imagine if I had read it earlier in my life it would have radicalized me sooner. We need more takes on motherhood that cite the impact of policy decisions on women’s health instead of all the tradwife adjacent nonsense that rails against girl boss feminism as the reason having kids is hard instead of capitalism and shrinking social support systems. (The book focuses on the UK but I found it more than relevant to birth in the US.)
